Carolyn has served in public schools as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and central office administrator. Carolyn has over 25 years of experience working with children with different learning needs and social and emotional deficits. She believes in a team approach. She values taking data, analyzing the data to determine the WHY behind the behavior or academic deficit, and then developing a child-centered plan. During her school-based administrative experiences, Carolyn oversaw all grade levels (preK-6), and special education teams. She served as the designated administrator on Response to Intervention (RTI), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Special Education Screening Committee, Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), and Individualized Education Plans (IEP) meetings among other duties and responsibilities.
Carolyn has two children, both of whom, have Individualized Education Plans (IEP). Her oldest is twice exceptional and receives services in the area of Learning Disabilities. Her youngest receives services in the areas of Autism, Emotional Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, and Other Health Impairment. She has been navigating special education services and supports for her children for over a decade.
Carolyn Haydon, Consultant
“When we see a behavior that is problematic or confusing, the first question we should ask isn’t’ “How do we get rid of it?” but rather “What is this telling us about the child?”
Mona Delahooke, Beyond Behaviors
“When we change the question, we are asking our brain to come up with a different set of answers.”

I’ve used several different advocates. But with Carolyn, I am just floored by how she knew what to say. There are certain magic FCPS/IEP words and phrases, and Carolyn knows them! I’m a fan of ABA and she speaks ABA as well. She also speaks the OT Sensory needs language. Mostly, it’s a combination of the fact that she has the knowledge, and experience from the FCPS side and she’s a mom who’s been through the trenches and has come out the other side.
Very grateful to you Carolyn!!-
Parent of High School Student
There is so much I could say about Carolyn. As someone new to teaching she’s taught me how to approach students who struggle to connect, how to meet them where they are, and how to not take things personally (this sounds easy but is actually a lot harder than you’d think). Instead of gatekeeping all of her techniques and what she’s learned by walking this road through her own personal evolution, she’s sharing her knowledge and talents with others who are in similar situations. She has decades of experience in education and special education. Her knowledge is extensive. I know she will provide empathy, care, and guidance for families and educators walking this road.
