#6 Finding a New Way Forward
Summer is flying by, and with it, we’ve witnessed more than our fair share of storms; both literally and emotionally. Across the country, we’ve seen record rainfall, devastating floods, and widespread destruction. In many ways, that’s echoed what’s happening in my own home this summer.
Storm after storm keeps rolling in. And when they pass, they leave behind a new kind of destruction. One that forces us to pause, assess, and rebuild. That’s where we are right now: standing in the aftermath, trying to understand the environment we’ve been left with and figuring out how best to support our child in it.
Have you ever felt like you’ve done everything you could to shield your child, your family, during the storm; only to find that when the clouds clear, nothing looks the same? That you’re left in unfamiliar territory, needing to rebuild and find a new way forward?
For us, that new way includes learning how to navigate state waiver services, tapping into local county mental health support, and exploring private-day school placements through the public school system. Just a few months ago, these weren’t even on our radar. Now, they’re central to our daily conversations.
What I’m learning, sometimes the hard way, is that asking for help is not a weakness; it’s a lifeline. Seeking support, leaning on professionals, and being open to new paths is how we weather the storm and protect our children once it’s passed.
So even after the storm settles, and the new landscape rises…different, unfamiliar, but still full of hope…we move forward. One step at a time. Because every storm runs out of rain. And in its wake, there is always a chance to rebuild something stronger for your child, for your family.
Thanks for being here!
